William R. Buck

William Russel Buck (born December 27, 1950 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American bryologist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " WRBuck "

Buck graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in 1972 and a master's degree in 1974 and received his PhD from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1979 . Since 1979 he has been at the New York Botanical Garden , from 1986 as curator for bryophytes and from 2000 as senior curator . He has also been Adjunct Professor at the City University of New York from 1986 .

He has been to field studies in much of North, South, and Central America and the Caribbean. Since 1988 he has been editor of the Memoirs of the New York Botanical Garden and also editor of North American Flora, Tropical Bryology and Nova Hedwigia.

He was the first to describe the moss genus Juratzkaeella Buck named after the bryologist Jakob Juratzka in 1977.
