William Sneak.

Sir William Schlich (born February 28, 1840 in Flonheim as Wilhelm Philipp Daniel Schlich , † September 28, 1925 in Oxford , England ) was a German-British forest scientist.

Life

Schlich attended high school in Darmstadt and studied at the Hessian Ludwig University . In 1860 he became a member of the Hassia Gießen Corps , and in 1866 he joined the Indian Forest Department . Schlich became Conservator in 1871 and General Inspector of Forestry in the British Indian Government in 1881 . In England he was one of the pioneers in forest science. In 1885 he became professor of forestry at the Royal Indian Engineering College at Cooper's Hill, which moved to Oxford in 1905 . In the same year Schlich became professor for forest science there.

One of his grandsons was the composer and musicologist Humphrey Searle (1915–1982).
