William Stephen Skylstad

William Stephen Skylstad (born March 2, 1934 in Omak , Okanogan County , Washington ) is an American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop Emeritus of Spokane .

Life

William Skylstad was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Spokane on May 21, 1960 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him bishop of Yakima on February 16, 1977 . The Archbishop of Seattle , Raymond Gerhardt Hunthausen , donated his episcopal ordination on May 12 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Bernard Joseph Topel , Bishop of Spokane, and Bernard Francis Law , Bishop of Springfield-Cape Girardeau .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Spokane on April 17, 1990. On June 30, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement. During the vacancy in the diocese of Baker from January 24, 2011 to March 8, 2012 he was diocesan administrator there .
