William Thompson Sedgwick

William Thompson Sedgwick (born December 29, 1855 in West Hartford , Connecticut , † January 25, 1921 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was one of the founders of modern healthcare in the United States of America.

William T. Sedgwick received his undergraduate degree from Yale University's Sheffield Scientific School in 1877 and then received his PhD from Johns Hopkins University in 1881. He taught as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1883 to 1921, initially as an associate Professor (1884), as Professor (1891) and finally as Head of the Department of Biology and Public Health.

In 1886 Sedgwick was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
