William Walker Atkinson (born December 5, 1862 in Baltimore , † November 22, 1932 in Los Angeles ) was an American businessman and lawyer as well as an author in the field of the New Spirit movement .

Life

William Walker Atkinson was born on December 5, 1862 in Baltimore to Emma and William Atkinson. He began his professional life in 1882 as a businessman. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1894 . His lawyer career was successful and brought him wealth. Later, stress and overwork led to Atkinson's physical and mental breakdown, and subsequent financial ruin. After contact with the New Spirit Movement, Atkinson managed to restore his mental and physical health.

Atkinson stood out particularly as a very prolific writer. Since he wrote not only under his own name, but also under many different pseudonyms , it is no longer possible to fully understand how many writings he actually wrote. However, if you add up all of the pseudonyms usually assigned to him, he must have written around 100 books in the last 30 years of his life. In the English-speaking world, many of his works are among the " classics " in the field of occultism and yoga , which are still published today - a good 100 years after their creation.
