William Wallace (production designer)

William Gemmell Wallace (born August 9, 1906 in Central Falls , Rhode Island , United States , † November 1968 in Los Angeles ) was an American film architect .

Live and act

Wallace began his cinematic career as a prop master at Warner Bros. After the war , the same company employed him as a film architect. In this role, Wallace oversaw numerous entertainment productions in which veteran Warner stars such as Errol Flynn , Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne participated. Wallace received an Oscar nomination in 1949 for the film structures designed and implemented by him and his colleague Robert M. Haas for the melodrama Silent Lips . In 1954 and 1955 he was also involved in the sets for the first two great James Dean successes Beyond Eden and ... because they don't know what they're doing .

Since the mid-1950s, television began to gain in importance for the East Coast American, who was often referred to as William G. Wallace in the opening credits. Until his death in the fall of 1968, he was in charge of the production designs for long-running hits such as the western series Cheyenne , Maverick , Lawman and, in 1966/67, F Troop , his last work.
