William White Clark
William White Clark (born September 23, 1819 in Augusta , Georgia , † August 6, 1883 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American lawyer and Confederate politician .
Career
William White Clark was born near Augusta, Richmond County , about four and a half years after the end of the British-American War . He attended college, studied law, and was admitted to the bar. Clark was a wealthy plantation owner in Covington ( Newton County ). He also had a political career. In 1841 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . The following decade was overshadowed by the Mexican-American War . The increasingly tense political mood of the period eventually led to the secession of the southern states , including Georgia, and the outbreak of civil war . In this regard, he was elected to the First Confederate Congress in November 1861 as a member of the Sixth Constituency of Georgia , where he served between 1862 and 1864. Clark died in Baltimore in 1883. His body was then transferred to Covington and buried in the city cemetery.
