Williamstown is a city in Dauphin County in the US state of Pennsylvania in the United States with 1433 inhabitants (2000) . The city is located approximately 63 km northeast of Harrisburg . in the 19th century anthracite coal was mined in the city . Williamstown is part of the "Harrisburg – Carlisle – Metropolitan Statistical Area".

Demographics

After the census of 2000, there 1,433 people in 611 households, and 406 families lived. The population density was 2866 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 99.02% White, 0.14% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.07% other ethnic and 0.49% mixed race . Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.35% of the population.

Of the 611 households, 25.7% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 49.3% were married couples living together, 11.6% were a single mother, and 33.4% were non-families. 29.0% were made up of single households, and 15.9% had people aged 65 years or older living alone. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.83 people.

In relation to the entire town, the population was composed of 21.8% residents under 18 years of age, 8.0% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.5% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.0% between 45 and 64 years of age 20.7% were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 86.5 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,359 , and the median income for a family is $ 36,548. Males had a median income of $ 31,855 versus $ 23,125 for females.
