Willie Smith (sprinter)
Willie Smith (born February 28, 1956 ) is a former American sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .
At the Universiade 1977 he won silver.
In 1979 he won bronze at the Pan American Games in San Juan and won the 4-by-400-meter relay at the World Athletics Cup in Montreal .
He was also victorious with the US relay at the Athletics World Cup in Rome in 1981 .
In 1979 and 1980 he was US champion over 400 m. Starting for Auburn University , he became NCAA champion over 400 m in 1978 and in 1977 and 1978 NCAA indoor champion over 440 yards .
