Willy Borngässer

Willy Borngässer (born June 19, 1905 in Mörstadt , † October 21, 1965 in Wiesbaden ) was a German Protestant pastor and local politician.

Life

Borngässer passed his first theological exam at the University of Giessen in 1929 and was ordained in Offenbach am Main in 1930 . In 1932 he became a pastor in Groß-Gerau , where he was involved in the German Christian faith movement . In 1934 Ernst Ludwig Dietrich , the regional bishop of the Evangelical Church in Nassau-Hessen , appointed by the German Christians , brought him to the Wiesbaden mountain church as pastor . Borngässer was pastor of the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden from 1935 until his death . He also worked as a prison chaplain.

Borngässer was initially a supporter of National Socialism and an opponent of the Confessing Church . It was not until 1936 that an increasing distancing set in, which is also reflected in the theological dissertation presented in Heidelberg in 1937. He was arrested twice for his political statements and sentenced to six years in prison by the People's Court in 1944 .

After being freed from prison, he worked from 1946 to 1948 as a city councilor for the CDU to rebuild political institutions. Three years after his death, the city council of Wiesbaden decided to honor Borngässer by naming a street in the Klarenthal district .

He found his final resting place in the north cemetery in Wiesbaden .
