Willy Kukuk (born September 15, 1875 in Düsseldorf ; † 1944 there ) was a German landscape painter .

family

Willy Kukuk was the son of the merchant Louis Kukuk († 1922) and Maria, nee Spork. His brother was the geologist Paul Kukuk . Willy Kukuk was married to Elisabeth, née Hauth, the daughter of a winery owner. His brother-in-law was the playwright Carl Sternheim .

Life

Kukuk studied at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf with Peter Janssen and at the Karlsruhe Art Academy with Carlos Grethe . The representative of late impressionism toured the Alps and Italy, where he created paintings with landscapes in bright, friendly colors. The 1908 yearbook of the Association for Local and Local History in Grafschaft Mark counted Kukuk "undoubtedly [...] one of the most interesting characters among the younger generation of Düsseldorf landscapers" and named his preference for "monumental contrasts in color."

Kukuk exhibited with the modern artists' associations Das Junge Rheinland , Rheingruppe and Rheinische Sezession .
