The Wimberg is a ridge in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria , in whose area the communities St. Johann am Wimberg and St. Peter am Wimberg as well as the elevations Hansberg and Petersberg are located.

location

The entire ridge between the catchment areas of the Kleine Rodl , the Pesenbach , the Große Mühl and the Steinernen Mühl was originally named Wimberg . The southernmost part of this ridge is called today after the church of St. Johann Hansberg on its western slope , a hill adjoining it to the north is also named Petersberg after a patronage .

The state road L1514 ( Wimbergstraße or Wimberg Bezirksstraße ) leads over the Wimberg .

history

The spelling common in the Middle Ages was mainly Windberg and Windiberg . The ownership of St. Florian Monastery in this part of the western Mühlviertel dates back to the donations made by Eppo von Windberg and his wife Regelind in 1108.
