Coordinates: 62 ° 13 ′ 0 ″  S , 58 ° 58 ′ 0 ″  W The Windbach is a stream on the Fildes Peninsula of King George Island , the largest of the South Shetland Islands . In the southern half of the peninsula it initially flows a few hundred meters northwards and formsa small lakesouthwest of the Büdelberg , from which it flows through the Saunders Valley in an east-southeast direction to Hydrographers Cove , a side bay of Maxwell Bay .

As part of two German expeditions to the Fildes Peninsula in 1981/82 and 1983/84 under the direction of Dietrich Barsch (Geographical Institute of the University of Heidelberg ) and Gerhard Stäblein (Geomorphological Laboratory of the Free University of Berlin ), the brook was together with numerous others until then unnamed geographic features of the Fildes peninsula and renamed the Scientific Committee on Antarctic research (Scientific Committee on Antarctic research, SCAR) reported.

During the second expedition, in the Antarctic summer 1983/84, extensive hydrological and geomorphological investigations were carried out on the brook . One of the results is that there is hardly any water storage in the soil there, but the stream is fed exclusively from surface and seepage water. The continuous base runoff is based on the snowmelt that continues throughout the summer , and after rainfall the runoff increases several times over within a short period of time .
