The Windhaag Portiunkula Church was a Roman Catholic church in Windhaag near Perg in the district of Perg in Upper Austria from 1651 to 1782 , which today serves as the church's burial hall .

Establishment

The little church, built according to the plans of the Capuchins Francis of Padua and P. Jovita, is modeled on the portiuncula , one of St. Francis of Assisi rebuilt chapel in Assisi. The Portiunkula Church was built in 1651 after a pilgrimage to Assisi by order of Joachim Enzmilner and was later part of the Dominican convent of Windhaag . Up until the 18th century, on August 2nd of each year, the church was the center of the annual purchase of the Portiuncula indulgence for four to five thousand believers . The celebration of the services in the church was one of the tasks of the Dominicans of the nearby Münzbach Monastery .

Building

The building is located south of the later built monastery and parish church of Windhaag , faces north-south and is said to have been built within three months. The former church is 6.6 meters wide, 18.7 meters long and has a ridge height of 12 meters. The walls are 1 meter thick. The altar and side walls have huge niches. The figure of St. Nepomuk housed there dates from the end of the 18th century.

Todays use

In the course of Josephinism , the building was profaned . Since 1983 the former church building , which is owned by the Windhaag community and attached to the Windhaag rectory , has been used as a funeral hall. The building is one of the stations on the Enzmilner Kulturwanderweg .
