Valérie Trierweiler (born February 16, 1965 in Angers ; born Massonneau ) is a French political journalist. As the partner of President François Hollande , she was the première dame of France from 2012 to the beginning of 2014 .

Career

Massonneau was born the fifth of six children. Her father Jean-Noël was disabled (he stepped on a land mine when he was twelve). Her mother worked as a receptionist at the Angers ice rink after her husband's death (around 1976).

She studied history and political science and graduated in 1988 with a Diplôme d'études supérieures spécialisées (DESS) from the Sorbonne . She then worked on the editorial staff of Paris Match , one of the largest weekly magazines in France.

When the television channel Direct 8 went on air in 2005 , Trierweiler hosted a political talk show. Until 2007 she hosted the political talk show Le Grand 8 . From September 2007 she hosted the weekly political program Politiquement parlant together with Mikaël Guedj .

Marriage and relationship with François Hollande

Trierweiler married a childhood friend at a very young age. In 1995 she was second married to Denis Trierweiler, a journalist, translator and Germanist whom she had met while working at Paris Match . This marriage has three children; she was divorced in 2005. Trierweiler was in a relationship with François Hollande from the mid-2000s and, after his separation from Ségolène Royal in June 2007 until the beginning of 2014, was his official partner.

Première Dame

After François Hollande was elected President of the French Republic in May 2012, she became the première dame of France. In the first few weeks after Hollande took office, several Twitter messages from Trierweiler caused a sensation in the French media. The media called this 'Tweetgate' (- 'gate' alludes to Watergate and means 'scandal' in this context). Hollande announced the split on January 25, 2014. Shortly afterwards, Trierweiler was admitted to a hospital with great interest from the rainbow press. After she was released, she expressed her intention to return to her former life.

At the beginning of September 2014 she published the autobiographical essay Merci pour ce moment ( Thank you for this moment ).

Author

Trierweiler published the novel Le secret d'Adèle in 2017, published in German translation in 2018 under the title Die Dame in Gold , which deals with Gustav Klimt's relationship with Adele Bloch-Bauer, whom he painted .
