Windhorst ( Low German Windhöst ) is a district of the municipality of Warpe in the district of Nienburg / Weser in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).
geography
Windhorst is located 19 km northwest of the district town of Nienburg / Weser on federal highway 6 between Bremen (49 km) and Hanover (67 km).
The village of Windhorst, with the hamlet of Burdorf, is 4.44 km² and has around 200 inhabitants.
history
The place Windhorst arose from around 1200 through settlement from the neighboring place Warpe. Burdorf is a few hundred years older. Around 1740 Windhorst was separated from Warpe and became an independent village. From 1706 to 1968 there was a school in Windhorst. Since the municipality reform, which came into force on March 1, 1974, Windhorst has been part of the municipality of Warpe . From 1990 to 2004, the former Bremen Senator Horst Werner Franke lived in Windhorst.
