The Spremberg wind farm is a system for generating electrical energy from wind power . It is located about five kilometers from the center of Spremberg in an easterly direction. The area used, in parts of the urban forest of Spremberg, is located on a hill and therefore offers ideal conditions for operating these systems.

The owner is the investment company Ampere Equity Fund. It acquired the entire system in April 2009 from WSB Neue Energien GmbH Sachsen , which emerged as the winner from among 21 applicants in the tenders for the construction of the Spremberg wind farm .

The park consists of nine wind turbines of type Fuhrländer FL-2500 with a hub height of 141 m and a rotor diameter m of the 100th The installed electrical output is 9 × 2.5 MW, for a total of 22.5 MW. This should make it possible to supply around 60,000 people with electricity. Electricity generation of around 55 GWh is expected per year  . After completion, the Spremberg wind farm will be the highest lattice mast wind farm in the world. The world's tallest single lattice-mast wind turbine is located in Laasow, Brandenburg .

The Spremberg wind farm forms a clear contrast to the Schwarze Pump lignite power station, which is within sight .

construction

Spremberg wind farm during the construction phase

In 2003 the area of the current Spremberg wind farm was designated as an area for wind turbines . The operating company and the city of Spremberg had different views on the final construction height right up to the end. The city of Spremberg demanded that the wind turbines do not exceed a total height of 180 m. WSB Neue Energien GmbH, which emerged as the winner of the tender from among 21 competitors, stuck to the original plans to build wind turbines with a total height of up to 195 m. It was not until December 2006 that the Spremberg city council decided to give the required total height of 195 m. In January 2008 the foundations for the planned nine wind turbines were laid. The erection of the lattice mast construction, which has a weight of 350 tons, began in September 2008. The first lattice mast, still without the nacelle and wings, was in place on September 12th, 2008. On October 6th, 2008 it was replaced by the parts already pre-assembled on the ground, such as the rotor , nacelle (with generator, gearbox, transformer and the complete control) and rotor blades , which together have a weight of around 60 tons (rotor) or 96 tons (nacelle).

On April 17, 2009 it became known that WSB Neue Energien GmbH had sold 100% of the Spremberg wind farm to the Dutch investment company Ampere Equity Fund. After all acceptance tests were successful, the Spremberg wind farm was put into operation on May 19, 2009 with a symbolic grid connection. The total investment amounts to approximately 35 million euros.

particularities

The blades required for the wind turbines, each with a total length of 50 m, had to be transported through the city center via the Spremberg market square when they were delivered. This path became necessary because all of the other approaches did not have the required turning radius.

The world's largest mobile truck crane was used to erect the wind turbines . It takes about two weeks to assemble and the parts required are distributed across 30 heavy-duty transporters.

Disruptions

On September 8, 2010 there was a transformer fire in the substation of the wind farm, which meant that the entire system was out of operation until October 13, 2010.
