Winds are a Norwegian metal band.

history

The band was founded in 1998, the musicians were already active in the metal scene before Winds was founded and some of them already worked together on other projects. So were Carl August Tidemann and Jan Axel Blomberg on debut album Aspera hiems symfonia the band Arcturus involved.

Two years after the founding of Winds, with the help of three guest musicians, an EP was completed, which was released in 2001 by Avantgarde Music . At this point, the band was already working on an album that was released by The End Records the following year . On the recording of Reflections of the I also was String Trio of Oslo Filharmonien involved. At the time of publication, the next album was finished, recorded together with a string quartet and released in 2004 under the title The Imaginary Direction of Time .

Then the musicians devoted themselves to other bands and projects. Sun founded Andy Winter , Lars Eikind and Blomberg 2004 Age of Silence and released an album and an EP. After three years, Winds' third album Prominence and Demise followed , on which Dan Swanö , Lars Nedland ( Solefald , Borknagar ) and Agnete M. Kirkevaag ( Madder Mortem ) also played a string quartet . Work on a fourth album has been in progress since 2015.

The band has not yet performed live and says they have no plans to do so.

Music style and lyrics

Winds' style combines elements of progressive metal , dark metal and classical music . The texts have an existential philosophy touch. The lyrics are written by Winter, who also works out the vocal lines with Eikind. Winter usually also defines the basic structures of the pieces, which are usually completed by Eikind and Tidemann. The strings are arranged by Eikind.
