Winfried Dahl

Winfried Dahl (born August 13, 1928 in Elberfeld ; † July 12, 2019 in Aachen ) was a German university professor and materials scientist .

Life

Winfried Dahl studied at the University of Göttingen Physics and Metallurgy and a doctorate in 1953 at Georg Masing Dr. rer. nat. After working at the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research in Düsseldorf , at the Institute for Metallurgy at the Technical University of Berlin and at the Mannesmann Research Institute in Duisburg , Dahl accepted an appointment at RWTH Aachen University in 1969 as the successor to Hermann Schenck , where he remained until his retirement in 1993 as a full professor for ferrous metallurgy with a focus on materials science of steels and until the appointment of his successor in 1994 as director of the institute for ferrous metallurgy.

Even after his retirement, Dahl remained connected to his institute and supported it in research and development projects. He was a co-initiator of the interdisciplinary center for metallic construction at RWTH Aachen University.

Winfried Dahl died on July 12, 2019. He found his final resting place in the Aachen forest cemetery .
