Winfried König (clergyman, 1932)

Winfried König (born December 4, 1932 in Haltern am See ; † November 10, 2015 in Münster-Wolbeck ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and long-time apostolic visitor for the faithful and priests of the former German Archdiocese of Breslau .

Life

Winfried König was born in the Münsterland , but grew up in Gläsendorf, Grottkau district (since 1945 Szklary , Gmina Kamiennik ). After the Second World War he came back to the Münsterland as a displaced person. He studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Münster and Innsbruck and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1960 . Among other things, he was chaplain in Rheine and President at the Pius College in Coesfeld . Since 1977 he has been a diocesan pastor for the expellees and resettlers in the diocese of Münster. In 1980 he became provost at the provost church of St. Clemens in Telgte .

On November 8, 1982, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Visitator for the faithful and priests of the former German Archdiocese of Breslau . As such, he was also a member of the German Bishops' Conference , in whose permanent council he represented the visitors of the expellees from the German eastern regions. He published the home letter of the Catholics of the Archdiocese of Breslau and was committed to the understanding between Germans and Poles.

In 2008 he retired, but remained connected to the Catholics from Silesia , for example as honorary chairman of the Silesian Priestly Society and as deputy chairman of the Cardinal Bertram Foundation he founded .

He found his final resting place in the central cemetery in Münster .
