Winfried Matthes

Winfried Matthes (born July 5, 1941 in Berlin ; † November 3, 2010 ) was Professor of Business Administration at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . He held the chair for business administration and computer-aided controlling in the department of economics.

Life

After graduating from high school, Matthes studied business administration at the Free University of Berlin , where he graduated in 1966 with a degree in business administration. In 1969 he was promoted to Dr. rer. pole. at the Institute for Industrial Research (Director: Erich Kosiol ).

From 1969 he worked as a scientific assistant at the chair for industrial management , then for corporate research (with Horst Steinmann and M. Meyer).

From 1971, Matthes worked as Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the Department of Economics at the University of Berlin , Institute of Business Management , Department of Operations Research busy (Director: P. Mevert), the habilitation of Business Administration at the University of Berlin took place in the 1974th

In 1976 he was appointed professor for business administration at the University of Cologne . At the University of Cologne, he also took over the chair for business planning in the planning seminar (from Norbert Szyperski ) from 1980 to 1986 .

In 1987 he was appointed professor for business administration , in particular computer-aided controlling, at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

From autumn 1991 until 2001 he was also the dean of the economics department . Subsequently, from 2001 to September 30, 2005, he also headed the expanded department of economics and social sciences at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, where he was dean for 14 years. From 2003 to 2005, Matthes was also the coordinator of the bizeps project (Bergisch-Märkische Initiative for the promotion of business start-ups , projects and structures) and from 2006 to 2009 he was chairman of the examination board for the integrated economics course at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.

Research and practice

His practice-relevant fields of research at the chair for business administration, especially computer-aided controlling, were among others:

  • the methodology of distributed controlling,
  • applied controlling (industry applications),
  • the area of ​​development controlling.

In the research areas at the University of Cologne and the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, numerous dissertations were successfully completed and practical projects and collaborations with national and international companies in the above-mentioned areas were carried out regularly.
