Winterstorm is a German power metal band from Bayreuth .
history
Beginnings
After the band Circle of Grief broke up , drummer Sebastian Albrecht and bassist Peter Cerveny were looking for more musicians for a new project. The songwriting began with guitarists Armin Haas and Michael Liewald as well as keyboardist Matthias Müller. In 2009 they found a suitable singer in Alexander Schirmer and after the re-establishment the preparation for a first album began. This was published in early 2011 under the title A Coming Storm and received mostly good to very good reviews in the trade press. The first appearances took place in various clubs in the Franconian region , and they gained greater fame as support for bands such as Rage , Saltatio Mortis or DragonForce, as well as at various national festivals. The increasing popularity in the scene brought the band the Medieval Rock Award at the Festival Mediaval 2011.
Second studio album
At the end of 2011, the recordings for the second studio album began. These took place in the band's own Mind EQ studios in Bayreuth, for which Orden Ogan singer Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann was able to be won over, who did the mixing . In the summer of 2012 the album was released under the title Kings Will Fall and was able to repeat the success of the first record. In addition to other club and support appearances , they also got a slot at the Wacken Open Air 2012. Appearances at other festivals such as the Ragnarök Festival , Beastival and as part of the Heidenfest ensemble followed.
Third album, European tours and line-up changes
With the third studio album Cathyron , released in 2014 via NoiseArt Records , Winterstorm supported Van Canto on the Tour of the Brave through Germany and parts of Europe. Afterwards the group was on the road again across Europe on the Heidenfest tour. In December 2015 the band announced that Sebastian Albrecht and Armin Haas were leaving the band. According to the band, a collaboration with Albrecht was no longer possible due to “different views of the music business”, while Armin wants to concentrate on composing instead of making music as well as non-musical activities, but will continue to be available to advise the band. A few days later, Tobi Lodes was introduced as the new guitarist and Jonas Hack as the new drummer. Several appearances followed, including at the Rock Harz Open Air 2016.
Fourth album
The fourth and so far most successful album " Cube of Infinity" was released on August 19, 2016 at Summer Breeze Open Air and rose to number 31 in the official German album charts . After further tours through Germany, all appearances at festivals such as Rock Harz Open Air , Christmas Bash and again Summer Breeze Open Air followed .
The band Winterstorm has been under contract with the record label AFM since 2019 .
style
Winterstorm play a mix of European Power Metal and elements from Folk , Epic and Medieval Metal . The focus is on typical melodic riffing and a high tempo for Power Metal. The texts deal with the areas of medieval or Viking battles ( Thirst of Revenge , Sail the Unknown Seas ), fantasy ( A Wizard's War , Dragonriders ) and sometimes True Metal texts ( Into the Light , Metalavial ) , which are often represented in this genre .
