Witten is a district of the municipality of Assen in the province of Drenthe ( Netherlands ). It lies between Bovensmilde and Assen. In the southwest the village is connected to the Autobahn 28 .

The TT Circuit Assen motorcycle racing track is located near the village, where , among other things, the Dutch TT is held as part of the motorcycle world championship .

There are several campsites in Witten, and a quarry pond has been created in the north of the village, which is very popular as an excursion destination in the summer months.

A corridor called Witten was first mentioned in a document in 1294. Between 1302 and 1487 the area belonged to the Cistercian monastery Mariënkamp (Maria in Campis) in Assen. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was stripped of its possessions, and in 1600 Witten and the farms that had since been settled became the property of the so-called “Landschap Drenthe”, the forerunner of today's province of Drenthe. Today several of the courtyards in Witten are under monument protection.
