Club history

The history of today's Wittgensteiner Heimatverein goes back to 1913. At that time the "Association for History and Folklore Wittgenstein" was founded, which soon had 700 members. The main goal of the association was stated in its name: research into the history of Wittgenstein. At the time, this was primarily served by the publications in "Mitteilungen". The First World War, which began shortly after it was founded, and the subsequent economic situation meant that the association's activities came to an end as early as 1927 - but the association was not dissolved.

In the period that followed, there was the opportunity to publish historical articles in the magazine "Das Schöne Wittgenstein" published by the Schmidt printing company in Laasphe, until the Second World War drew a line here.

Professor Wilhelm Hartnack , who, like his father Karl Hartnack, was very keen to research the history of Wittgenstein, came to Laasphe after the Second World War. After the currency reform he tried together with Pastor Gustav Friedrich Bauer to revive the old history association under a new name as "Wittgensteiner Heimatverein eV". However, the time was not yet ripe for this. It was not until 1954 that there were concrete approaches that finally led to success on April 14, 1956. A new statute of the "Wittgensteiner Heimatverein e. V. “was decided. The then senior district director Gustav Richter took over the chairmanship. The organ of publication of the association was from now on the magazine "Wittgenstein - Blätter des Wittgensteiner Heimatverein eV". In 1963, Gustav Richter gave up the chairmanship, followed by Oberkreisdirektor Wilfried Lückert, who headed the association until 1990. From 1990 to February 2015 lawyer Gerhard Karpf was chairman of the association. Otto Marburger (Bad Berleburg-Schwarzenau) has been in charge of the association since April 25, 2015.

The aims of 1913 were taken up in an expanded form as the area of activity of the re-established association: the research and presentation of the history and regional studies of Wittgenstein. Since then, the booklets of the magazine "Wittgenstein" and larger supplements and special publications serve this purpose. The first supplements were “Das Wittgensteiner Landrecht ” and “Die Berleburger Chroniken ”, both of which were frequently cited volumes. In addition, other special publications such as “Die Vogelwelt Wittgenstein” by Albrecht Belz and Heinz König or the four-volume story of Bad Berleburg between 1900 and 1949 by Heinz Strickhausen appeared.

Over the years, all areas of Wittgenstein's regional studies have been included in the magazine “WITTGENSTEIN. Leaves of the Wittgensteiner Heimatverein eV ”. Even if the general history and local knowledge were in the foreground, there are still many important contributions on contemporary history, economic history, natural history and, last but not least, family history topics. All publications of the Wittgensteiner Heimatverein (and many more) are compiled in the " Bibliography on Wittgenstein Territorial History - Bibliography Wittgenstein ", a regional bibliography .

The circulation of this stamp was 40 copies, the face value 45 cents. Two more brands were commissioned from Deutsche Post in spring 2013. The stamp with a face value of 45 cents has an edition of 240 copies. The motif shows a collection of Wittgensteiner Heimatbücher and the Wittgenstein magazine , Blätter des Wittgensteiner Heimatverein e. V., supplemented by the title bar of the Wittgenstein magazine and the coat of arms of the former Wittgenstein district . The circulation of the other stamp, with a postal value of 58 cents, is 1200 copies. The motif essentially corresponds to the "first attempt" with a slightly changed image section, the text on the image was supplemented by the information "1913 - 2013" and "e. V. ".
