Vladimir Alexandrovich Kondratiev

Vladimir Alexandrowitsch Kondratjew ( Russian Владимир Александрович Кондратьев ; * July 2, 1935 in Samara , † March 3, 2010 in Moscow ) was a Russian mathematician and university professor .

Life

Kondratjew's father Alexander Sergejewitsch Kondratjew was professor of mechanics at the Kuibyshev Industrial Institute . The mother Evgenija Wassiljewna was a mathematics teacher and discovered her son's mathematical talent at an early age. Kondratiev graduated from Middle School No. 6 in Kuibyshev in 1952 with a gold medal. He then studied at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Lomonossow University Moscow (MGU) with a degree in 1957. This was followed by an apprenticeship with Samari Alexandrowitsch Halpern . In 1960 he received his doctorate as a candidate in physical-mathematical sciences .

Kondratiev worked and then taught at the Chair of Differential Equations in the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at MGU. In 1966 he received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences . In his doctoral thesis he developed the fundamentals for the theory for the behavior of solutions to elliptic equations in the vicinity of a singular point. This resulted in the complete theory in collaboration with Olga Arsenjewna Oleinik . In 1970 he was appointed professor. His main focus was on the theory of ordinary and partial differential equations , non-linear analysis and spectral theory . In 2002 he was honored as an Honored Professor of the MGU.

In 1968, Kondratiev was among the signatories of the letter of 99 to the Minister of Health of the USSR and the Prosecutor General of the USSR in defense of the mathematician Alexander Esenin-Wolpin , who was detained in Moscow Hospital No. 5 for Psychiatry .
