Vladimir Evgenjewitsch Malenkich ( Russian Владимир Евгеньевич Маленьких ; born October 1, 1980 in Tolyatti , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with HK Lada Tolyatti in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Vladimir Malenkich began his career as a hockey player with HK Lada Tolyatti , for whom he was active in the Russian Super League from 1998 to 2005 . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1999 in the seventh round as a total of 157 players by the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he never played. In the meantime, the defender was also on the ice in seven games for Tolyatti's league rivals ZSK WWS Samara . Before the 2005/06 season, Malenkich moved to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk , with whom he then won the Spengler Cup in 2005 and became Russian champion for the first time in his career in 2007 . In addition, the right-handed shooter won the IIHF European Champions Cup with Metallurg in 2008 , in the final of which he and his team defeated Czech rivals HC Sparta Prague 5-2 .
In May 2011 he moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod together with Yevgeny Varlamow and was part of the team's regular squad for the following two seasons before returning to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in July 2013. With Metallurg he won the KHL championship trophy , the Gagarin Cup , in 2014 .
In 2015 he returned to his hometown club before ending his career in June 2018 and becoming assistant coach of Lada's junior team in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga .
