Vladimir Nikolajewitsch Gussew ( Russian Владимир Николаевич Гусев ; born July 4, 1982 in Gorki ) is a Russian cyclist .
Career
As an U23 driver, Vladimir Gussew won a stage at the Giro delle Regioni in 2003 , the GP Tell with four stages, as well as the Russian elite time trial championship. In 2004 he became a professional with the Danish team CSC . He celebrated his first professional success in 2005 with a stage win on the Mediterranean Tour . In 2004 and 2005 he finished second and third in the Chrono des Herbiers . He won the Russian time trial championship title for the second time in 2005.
In 2006 and 2007 Gusew rode for the US Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team . At Paris-Roubaix , he initially finished fourth, but was disqualified because he crossed a closed railway barrier together with Peter Van Petegem and his teammate Leif Hoste .
In 2008 he moved to Pro Team Astana , where he was fired in July 2008. Although no doping could be detected, he had irregular blood values during internal team controls. Because of this, the Russian Federation did not let him start at the Olympic Games.
From May 2010 until the end of the 2014 season, Gusev drove for the Russian team Katyusha . There he was once again able to become the Russian time trial champion. In September he also took part in the Vuelta . There he finished 17th in the overall ranking.
In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua at the end of 2014, he was suspected of having been a customer of the controversial sports medicine specialist Michele Ferrari .
