action
Jenny Carey is a successful actress who ruined her career with her alcohol addiction. She meets the advertising salesman Alan Miller, of all people, who was an alcoholic himself . Alan is married to Edna and has two children. He falls in love with the actress and tries to help her. She is supposed to go to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings . Alan's intense efforts eventually lead to a crisis in his marriage. His wife doesn't believe him that this is just his sympathy for a sick woman. Alan relapses himself and has to finally decide whether he will let Jenny pull him into the abyss or stay with Edna in the family's lap. Alan decides for Edna and the children, even though he loves Jenny.

After his hit film The Lost Weekend from 1945, Ray Milland starred for the second time in an alcohol problem film. What Life Is Worth For is the first film to feature Alcoholics Anonymous Organization as a theme in a film.
