Wojciech Stattler
Wojciech Korneli Stattler (born April 20, 1800 in Cracow , † November 6, 1875 in Warsaw ) was a Polish painter and art teacher.
Life
Wojciech Stattler was born as the son of the boiler manufacturer and city councilor of Kraków Joachim Stattler. In 1816 he began to study mathematics and natural sciences at the Jagiellonian University , but after a year he moved to the Cracow School of Art to study with Antoni Brodowski , Józef Peszka and Franciszek Lampi . Subsequently, from 1818 to 1827, he studied in Rome and Venice a. a. with Vincenzo Camuccini , Bertel Thorvaldsen and Antonio Canova .
After his return he worked as a portraitist and portrayed a. a. Members of the Potocki family and Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski . 1829-1857 he was a professor at the Cracow School of Art. His students there were u. a. Aleksander Kotsis , Arthur Grottger and Jan Matejko . In 1870 he moved to Warsaw, where he died in 1875 and was buried in the Powązki cemetery .
