Wolfgang Ellenberger

Wolfgang Ellenberger (born August 1, 1955 in Munich-Pasing ) is a German pianist, conductor and doctor, as well as the founder of the 1st medical and opera ensemble PDO.

Life

He received his first piano lessons at the age of nine and a half from a piano teacher in the neighborhood. After a year he switched to Henri Knupper in Hamburg-Harburg , who had his students perform with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra with movements from piano concertos about every two years , so that when Ellenberger was fourteen years old, Ellenberger performed the 2nd and 3rd movements from the piano concerto in D -Dur of Joseph Haydn played and at sixteen the 1st movement from the piano Concerto No. 1 in C major by Ludwig van Beethoven .

At the age of seventeen he won the 3rd prize at the Steinway competition in Hamburg and one year before graduating from high school he got a place at the Hochschule für Musik Hamburg in Eckart Besch's class , where he took his piano diploma in June 1977. After graduating from high school in 1973, he also studied medicine from spring 1974 and later also music therapy at the Hamburg University of Music and successfully completed these two courses. After obtaining his medical license in 1982, he studied with Conrad Hansen and in 1984 passed the concert exam at the Lübeck University of Music .

This was followed by a phase of life as a freelance pianist and later also a conductor, combined with an event service, as well as the foundation of the historically first doctor-healer opera ensemble PDO. In 2000 Ellenberger returned to the medical profession for financial reasons. Since then he has completed his training as a specialist in general medicine and is active as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy FMH (Switzerland). From 2011 to 2014 and since November 2016 he lives and works in Switzerland.

Ellenberger is divorced twice and has four children from her first marriage and one child from her second marriage.

As part of his medical activities, he worked for a hospital software company for three years. He has been carrying out quality management for German medical practices since 2016.

Pedagogue

Ellenberger has been teaching since he was 11 years old and gave tutoring in all school subjects. He has been giving piano lessons since he was 18. The doctor's piano courses have been taking place since 1991, first across Germany until 2000, then after a break since 2011 internationally in Vienna, since 2012 also in Heidelberg and since 2018 also in London. These courses are attended by colleagues from all over Europe and the USA.

Since 2018, Ellenberger has been publishing a unique online piano course, which leads in three levels from the basic to the advanced to the professional course and makes it possible to learn how to become a pianist on a largely autodidactic basis.
