Wolfgang Fuhrmann

Wolfgang Fuhrmann (* 1966 in Vienna ) is an Austrian musicologist and music journalist.

Live and act

Fuhrmann graduated from the Kandlgasse grammar school in 1984 and studied musicology and German at the University of Vienna . He wrote as a freelance music journalist for the Wiener Standard , the Berliner Zeitung and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . Fuhrmann became heart and voice with his dissertation . Inwardness, Affect and Singing in the Middle Ages did his doctorate and habilitation with the study Haydn and his audience. The publication of a composer around 1750 to around 1815 in 2010 at the University of Bern .

Fuhrmann specialized in music from 1420 to 1520 and its cultural context, music theater , the musical public as well as fundamental theoretical and methodological questions in musicology.

Fuhrmann taught at the universities of Berlin , Leipzig , Vienna and Bern. In 2008 he held the interim chair of Joachim Kremer at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart . From 2011 to 2016 he was assistant for historical musicology at the University of Vienna . In the 2013/14 academic year he held the chair for music sociology and historical anthropology at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2013, he and his wife, Melanie Wald-Fuhrmann, published the work Awareness and Memory. The dramaturgy of the leitmotifs in Richard Wagner . Since 2016 he has been a research assistant in the musicology department at the University of Mainz . He then took on the substitute professorship for the sociology of music and historical anthropology of music at the Humboldt University. In 2018 he was appointed to the professorship for music sociology and music philosophy at the University of Leipzig .
