Wolfgang Heer (Lawyer)
Wolfgang Heer (* 1973 in Cologne ) is a German lawyer . He became known to the public when he took on the defense of right-wing extremist Beate Zschäpe , a former member of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) terror group .
Life
Wolfgang Heer studied from 1995 to 1999 at the University of Cologne Law , followed by a clerkship in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Cologne followed. He was admitted to the bar in January 2004 and has been holding the title of specialist lawyer for criminal law since being awarded by the Cologne Bar Association .
When Zschäpe turned herself in to the police on November 8, 2011, she went to the police in Jena, accompanied by a lawyer she knew. This put her through his Cologne colleague Wolfgang Heer. In November 2011, Heer took over the defense of Beate Zschäpe as public defender in the NSU trial and suggested - due to the complexity of the proceedings - that the Federal Prosecutor should apply to the Munich Higher Regional Court to appoint two further lawyers as public defenders. However, the Federal Prosecutor's Office considered a single paid public defender to be sufficient. The lawyers Wolfgang Stahl and Anja Sturm then continued their work as unpaid defense lawyers for Zschäpe. In December 2012, they were appointed as public defenders by the Munich Higher Regional Court.
