Wolfgang Heibges

Wolfgang Heibges (born July 1, 1922 in Lippstadt , Westphalia , † 2005 in Glücksburg near Flensburg ) was a German naval officer (frigate captain) and commander of the submarine U 999 .

He was the son of Stephan Heibges (1888–1938) and spent his childhood in Paderborn .

Contrary to command the 22-year-old took submarine -Kommandant Wolfgang Heibges 1945 in Hela in Gdansk more than 40 women and children on board, before the Red Army fled and took her to four days from the Gulf of Gdansk on the Baltic Sea by Warnemünde .

The end of the war saved him from execution .
