Wolfgang Henning (born June 3, 1943 in Opole , Upper Silesia , † June 20, 2007 ) was a German football referee in the GDR .

As a trained shipbuilder and printer owner, Henning, who later worked as police chief inspector and department head of the Rostock vehicle registration office, became a referee for FC Hansa Rostock in the German Football Association of the GDR from 1968 . On August 20, 1977 Henning acted in the game 1. FC Union Berlin against BSG Chemie Bohlen for the first time as a referee in the league as the highest East German division. In the FDGB-Pokal he led, among other things, the cup final 1984 between Dynamo Dresden and BFC Dynamo (2: 1), as a result of which he was out of all international games for one year because of a controversial penalty that led to the meanwhile 2: 0 score was suspended. Henning was considered the most renowned referee of FC Hansa in the GDR and one of the few upper league referees from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. He died on June 20, 2007 after a serious illness.
