Wolfgang II von Pappenheim (born November 27, 1535 at Rotenstein Castle , † March 6, 1585 ) was an Imperial Hereditary Marshal from the Pappenheimer family .

Life

Wolfgang was the son of Wolfgang von Pappenheim († 1558) and his wife Margareta von Roth († 1555). In 1555 he accompanied his father to the Reichstag in Augsburg . Just one year later, when he fell from his horse, he suffered health problems that probably prevented him from further service in the Reich. As a result, he could take more care of his possessions. So he had the 8th part of the Pappenheim rule, the Trendel Castle on the Hahnenkamm and acquired two more castles in the Berolzheim market , including the Upper Castle . Together with his brothers, he built the Lower Castle in Bad Grönenbach in 1563 . He died on March 6, 1585 at the age of 49. A marble epitaph probably created by Wilhelm Sarder from Eichstätt was erected for him "in the old chapel at which burial next to the wall". It bears the following inscription:

"Anno Domini 1585, the 6th Martii, is the well-born Mr. Wolff, Hereditary Marshal of the Holy Roman Empire at Pappenheim, between 8 and 9 o'clock in the morning, God is so different."

Wolfgang II was married to Magdalena von Pappenheim († June 24, 1602), the daughter of Ulrich von Pappenheim from the Alesheim line. After Wolfgang II's death, Magdalena married her second husband, Christoph Ulrich von Pappenheim, from the Graefenthal line, which died out with his death in 1599.
