City Church St. Marien (Pappenheim)
The town church of St. Marien is a Protestant church in Pappenheim in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The late Gothic church has the address Graf-Carl-Straße 7.
The previous building, on the foundations of the present church stands, is under the ground conservation . The Marienkirche was built from 1452 to 1476 as the Church of Our Lady . Only since the Reformation of the city of Pappenheim in 1539/1540 did it function as the city church . In 1679 a gallery and patronage boxes were installed ; The altar and pulpit were installed in 1713, the five-part organ front was installed in 1728. The furnishings were baroque between 1680 and 1728. The flat ceiling of the nave dates from 1832. The glass paintings are from 1906. In 1974, several tombstones and epitaphs were found , including four Reichserbmarschallen .
The coat of arms of the Counts of Pappenheim can be found on the organ prospect, above the altarpiece, at the southern entrance and on the keystone in the groin vault. At the southern entrance there is a remnant of a wall painting on which Mary is depicted in a blue-red robe. An offering box dates from 1505 . A wooden sculpture about three meters high was created by Karl Hemmeter in 1974 and stands as a war memorial at the church entrance.
The hall has the choir of the church. The church tower with a pointed helmet is located on the west facade of the church building . The church tower is decorated with green glazed roof tiles , which have become a trademark of the church.
