Wolfgang Jöhling

Wolfgang Jöhling (* 1944 in Görlitz ) is a Polish translator , publicist , poet and photographer of German origin.

Life

Jöhling spent his childhood and youth in his hometown on the German-Polish border, where he also passed the Abitur . In 1969 he completed his studies at the University of Leipzig as a qualified interpreter and translator for Polish and Russian. In 1967/68 he studied in Poznan for a year .

In 1974 he moved to Poland and settled in Warsaw. In 1977 he received Polish citizenship .

Since 1975 he has been the editor of the German editorial team at the Polish agency Interpress and was already working with the film industry, art and science publishers (Arkady, WAiF, PWN etc.), spoken and musical theater (Stary Teatr Krakow, Warsaw Chamber Opera ) and German-speaking Press together. He always had the German-Polish understanding in mind. He has been a full member of the Polish Association of Language Intermediaries (STP) since it was founded in 1981. He has been working as a freelance translator since 1992.

He published his own poems in literary magazines in both countries, especially in anthologies . He is also a writer of Polish poetry.

After receiving his Polish passport in 1977, he began to travel the world. The strongest impressions left him on the one hand Iceland, Scandinavia north of the Arctic Circle, Mount Etna, Siberia, on the other hand the countries of the Sahel zone, Kurdistan, Yemen, Oman, Iran, the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia, Nepal and Namibia.

The photographic yield of these trips met with the goodwill of the judges of photo competitions. The Warsaw art and film publisher WAiF, the art publisher Arkady as well as photo, home, garden and tourism magazines use his photos, which have won multiple awards.

He also worked in the Warsaw film studio as a German commentator and voice actor , subtitled Polish competition entries for the Berlinale and played a supporting role in Krzysztof Rogulski's Last Round ( Ostatnie okrążenie about the Polish Olympian Janusz Kusociński).
