Wolfgang Jamann

Wolfgang Jamann (born June 24, 1960 ) is a German sociologist and development worker.

Career

Jamann studied development sociologist at Bielefeld University, learned Chinese and then received his doctorate in Bielefeld with a thesis on the social development of Southeast Asia.

From 1990 he worked for the German Foundation for International Development , later for the United Nations Development Program in Zambia .

From 1995 to 2004 he was Head of Humanitarian Aid for World Vision . In this role, he headed the World Vision Sudan program, was regional representative for East Africa and coordinated World Vision Germany's global disaster relief from 1999 to 2004.

Jamann was Chief Executive Officer of CARE Germany for five years from 2004 to 2009 . At the same time he was chairman of the CARE foundation “Help for People in Need” and of Together for Africa and as a member of the board of trustees for the aid organization.

From 2009 to 2015 he was CEO and Secretary General of Deutsche Welthungerhilfe . In 2015 he returned to CARE and worked as Secretary General of CARE International in Geneva until January 2018 .

Since March 2018 he has been Executive Director of the International Civil Society Center in Berlin.

He is on the advisory boards of the Aid by Trade Foundation and the Viva con Agua Foundation .
