Wolfgang Jilly (born April 24, 1940 in Znaim , Reichsgau Niederdonau ) is a former Austrian diplomat and hotelier .

Life

Wolfgang Jilly was born in Znaim as the son of an X-ray specialist. His parents ran a hotel in Pörtschach am Wörthersee and in the Obertauern ski area , which is why he grew up mainly in Pörtschach am Wörthersee until he went to high school. From 1951 to 1959 he attended the Kalksburg College in Vienna and then did military service in the Austrian Armed Forces . From 1960 he studied law in Graz and Vienna and graduated with a doctorate in 1965 . From 1965 to 1966 he completed his court year in Vienna and was then a trainee lawyer in a law firm in Vienna. In 1970 he joined the Federal Chancellery and worked there in Section V (Economy). From 1976 to 1981, he was Minister Counselor of the OECD delegation in Paris .

In 1981 Wolfgang Jilly joined the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs . From 1984 to 1988 he was ambassador to the embassy to the Holy See during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II . From 1988 to 1992 he was the Austrian ambassador to Chile . After three years at the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Vienna, he was Ambassador to the Philippines from 1996 to 2001 . From 2001 to 2005 he was ambassador to Latvia .

family

Wolfgang Jilly is married and has three daughters and one son. His son Andreas Jilly is the former Federal Chairman of the Action Community and Vice-President of the Academic Forum for Foreign Policy (AFA) .

Ambassador Wolfgang Jilly is the grandson of the former member of the Lower Austrian state parliament, Karl Wody .

Wolfgang Jilly took over his parents' hotel in the Obertauern ski area , which is now run by his wife.
