Andreas Jilly (born January 18, 1992 in Santiago de Chile ) is an Austrian politician and university official. Since 2014 he has been Vice President of the Academic Forum for Foreign Policy and the United Nations . Jilly is the former Federal Chairman of the Action Community . He was the nationwide candidate for the Sebastian Kurz list - The New People's Party in the 2019 National Council election .

Life

Andreas Jilly was born in Santiago de Chile as the son of the Austrian ambassador Wolfgang Jilly and Susanne Jilly . After visiting the Theresian Academy he has for physics , economics and law in Vienna enrolled , but completed none of these studies.

Political career

Jilly is a member and since 2019 chairman of the young ÖVP in Josefstadt (Vienna) . He held the management there from 2013 to 2016 and was deputy district chairman from 2016 to 2019. In 2012 he was appointed Secretary General of the Academic Forum for Foreign Policy and the United Nations and was elected Vice President in 2014, making him part of the Federal Presidium. In 2015 he ran for the ÖH election on the federal list of the AktionGemeinschaft and was elected federal chairman in the summer after the election. From 2016 he represented Austria as a delegation leader to the European Democrat Students . In the 2017 election of the Austrian Students' Union , Jilly ran as one of the top three nationwide candidates for the AktionGemeinschaft. From 2017 to 2019 he was a member of the Senate of the Danube University and a public relations officer at the ÖH DUK. In 2017 he ran for the National Council election on the federal list of Sebastian Kurz - The New People's Party

Political positions

At the district level, Jilly is committed to supporting young entrepreneurs and strengthening local small and medium-sized businesses. According to his own statements, he mainly represents young people and calls for the support of young families and young artists. At the university policy level, Andreas Jilly advocates that ÖH fees are only used for the "interests of the students" and for everything that is "directly related to the course". Above all, he criticizes the alleged abuse of ÖH funds by the other parliamentary groups. He advocates access restrictions in the form of a "fair" entrance test, but emphasizes that this is only a "short-term solution for quality assurance" because the long-term goal is to fund the higher education sector.

In higher education policy, he focuses on European cooperation between students and their representatives.

According to Jilly's own statements, she advocates the increased use of regional products in order to protect the environment and support local entrepreneurs and farmers, both at the district level and at the federal level in terms of university policy.
