Wolfgang Junge

Wolfgang Junge , (born April 8, 1940 in Berlin ) is a German biophysicist .

Life

Wolfgang Junge studied physics at the Technical University of Berlin . In 1968 he received his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) And in 1971 he also completed his habilitation in physical chemistry at the TU Berlin . From 1973 to 1978 he held a professorship for physical and biophysical chemistry at the TU Berlin. Junge was visiting professor at the Johnson Foundation / University of Pennsylvania , the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon . From 1979 to 2007 he was full professor of biophysics in the Department of Biology / Chemistry at the University of Osnabrück , then Professor of Lower Saxony from 2009 to 2015. His main research interests are photosynthesis and cell respiration , especially the rotating mechanics of ATP synthase and photosynthetic water oxidation .

Junge holds honorary doctorates from the Free University of Berlin and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. He is a member of numerous scientific societies and has held various positions within the University of Osnabrück ( Dean , Senator, SFB spokesman), in the German scientific community (e.g. at the DFG , the Max Planck Society and as a curator of the Volkswagen Foundation ) and internationally ( including board member of IUPAB, President of the International Society of Photosynthesis Research).

Wolfgang Junge is married and has four children.
