Wolfgang Kaim (* 1951 in Bad Vilbel , Hessen) is a German chemist and professor of inorganic chemistry at the University of Stuttgart .

Live and act

Wolfgang Kaim studied chemistry and physics at the Universities of Frankfurt am Main and Konstanz , where he graduated from Ewald Daltrozzo in 1974 . After a doctorate with Hans Bock with the thesis on the production and investigation of novel radical cations at the University of Frankfurt (1978) and habilitation at the age of 31 (1982) there, he has been a full professor of inorganic chemistry at the University of Stuttgart since 1987.

Liebig, Winnacker and Heisenberg scholarships supported his career and enabled, among other things, a postdoc research stay with FA Cotton at Texas A&M University in College Station , Texas in 1978/79 .

Kaim is visiting professor at several foreign universities. For example at Northern Illinois University (USA), Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou (China), Universidad de Chile in Santiago (Chile), Universidad de Concepción (Chile) and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India).

His scientific work includes over 600 publications that are prominently devoted to the investigation of organometallic coordination compounds with biochemical relevance. Kaim has sponsored more than 55 doctorates and three post-doctoral degrees.

For 2014 he was awarded the Alfred Stock Memorial Prize of the Society of German Chemists .
