Wolfgang Kraak (born June 22, 1923 in Sorau ; † April 23, 2015 in Dresden ) was a German engineer specializing in acoustics and signal analysis and professor of technical acoustics at the Technical University of Dresden .

Life

Wolfgang Kraak completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter in Sorau and studied mechanical engineering in Ilmenau from 1939 to 1947; after that he was a soldier, new teacher and took a preparatory course. From 1947 to 1952 he studied electrical engineering at the TH Dresden . 1952 to 1956 he was assistant and senior assistant at Walter Reichardt . In 1957 he did his doctorate at the TH Dresden on the subject of "Electroacoustic measurements on spatial models". From 1957 to 1961 he was head of the acoustics department at the aerospace industry research center. From 1961 to 1966, Wolfgang Kraak was involved in setting up and managing the VEB vibration technology and acoustics Dresden. In 1965 he completed his habilitation with the thesis "Sound insulation and sound absorption of porous absorbers with open pores" at the TU Dresden. Between 1966 and 1988 he was teaching and researching at the TU Dresden. In 1969 Wolfgang Kraak was appointed full professor for technical acoustics. In 1988 he retired. In 1991 he became an honorary member of the Audio Engineering Society .
