Wolfgang Ludewig

Wolfgang Ludewig (born December 7, 1926 in Marburg ; † December 21, 2017 in Stuttgart ) was a German composer and radio writer who lived in Stuttgart.

Career

Ludewig studied composition with Wolfgang Fortner in Heidelberg as well as musicology , philosophy and art history at the University of Heidelberg . He received a scholarship from the Darmstadt International Summer Courses , where he attended courses from Ernst Krenek , Edgar Varèse and René Leibowitz .

He also worked early as a music and theater critic. From 1963 to 1967 he headed the press department of the music publisher B. Schott's Sons Mainz. From 1968 to 1992 he worked as an editor for opera and contemporary music at Süddeutscher Rundfunk Stuttgart. He is a co-founder of the Society for New Music in Mannheim . From 1994 to 1997 he was President of the Free Academy of the Arts Mannheim .

Ludewig's complete catalog of works includes around 50 works of all genres that have been performed in many European countries as well as in the USA , Israel and Japan .

Part of his collection of works is in the holdings of the German Composers' Archive in Hellerau - European Center for the Arts in Dresden.
