Wolfgang Maison (born November 22, 1971 in the Wesermarsch ) is a German chemist and university professor .

Life

Wolfgang Maison grew up in Elsfleth and studied chemistry from 1991 to 1997 at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg . His doctoral thesis (topic: “Efficient syntheses of amino acid derivatives, useful for the production of peptide nucleic acids, unnatural peptides and peptidomimetics”) was in the field of organic chemistry, his mentor was Jürgen Martens . Maison was awarded Dr. rer. nat. PhD . He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Daniel S. Kemp's laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, until 2001 . Between 2001 and 2006, Wolfgang Maison worked on his habilitation at the Institute for Organic Chemistry at the University of Hamburg . From 2006 to 2011 he was Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen , calls to the Norwegian Technical University Trondheim (NTUT, 2005), the European Institute of Chemical Biology, Bordeaux , France (2006) and a chair in Organic He declined to do chemistry at the University of Edinburgh , Scotland (2006). Since September 1st, 2011 he has been Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Hamburg.

Wolfgang Maison is married and has a daughter and a son.

Act

In his diploma and doctoral theses, as a postdoctoral fellow and as a habilitation candidate , the scientific work was mainly attributable to organic-chemical synthesis. In recent years, research has concentrated on medicinal chemistry and natural product chemistry.

Awards

As a doctoral student, Maison was awarded a scholarship from the Heinz Neumüller Foundation . His postdoctoral work was supported by a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation . In 2002 he was awarded the Thieme Journal Prize. The Fonds der Chemischen Industrie supports his research. In 2005 Maison was visiting professor at the University of Toronto (sponsored by Merck, Mark Lautens).
