Wolfgang Millgrams
Wolfgang Millgramm (born April 16, 1954 in Kühlungsborn ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher .
Life
Millgramm received his training at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and studied with Günther Leib , chamber singer Peter Gougaloff and maestro Pier Miranda Ferraro in Milan. The Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin engaged him while he was still a student, from 1984 to 1992 he was a permanent member of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, and was also a guest of the house. In 1990 he was appointed chamber singer by the Berlin State Opera .
The Heldentenor sang the great dramatic tenor roles during John Dew's directorship at the Dortmund Opera : Euryanthe ( Adolar ), Oberon ( Hüon ), Andrea Chénier ( Andrea Chenier ), Tannhäuser ( Tannhäuser ), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ( Stolzing ), Otello , Il trovatore ( Manrico ) and La juive ( Eleazar ). With Siegfried ( Götterdämmerung ), Hoffmann ( Hoffmanns Erzählungen ), Bacchus ( Ariadne auf Naxos ), Tristan , Florestan ( Fidelio ) and above all Tannhäuser he made guest appearances at the Bayreuth Festival , the Roman Opera, the National Theater in Prague , the New Israeli Opera, at the Opera de Oviédo, the Stuttgart Opera , the Royal Stockholm Opera , the New National Theater Tokyo and La Scala in Milan . It is worth mentioning his frequent interpretation of Doctor Marianus in Symphony No. 8 by Gustav Mahler , among others in Vienna, Bratislava, Madrid, Las Palmas and Montpellier.
A new production of " Tristan und Isolde " at the Royal Stockholm Opera was decisive for his career . The production, directed by Leif Segerstam , was released as a complete recording by Naxos. He recorded the rarely recorded opera “ The First People ” by Rudi Stephan under the direction of Mikko Franck with the Orchester National de France in Paris.
Millgramm has worked with conductors such as Otmar Suitner , Christian Thielemann , Jiri Kout , Heinz Fricke , Stefan Soltesz , Hans Wallat , Fabio Luisi , Mikko Franck, Michael Halàsz , Milan Horvat , Anton Reck and Wolfgang Rennert .
In 2006 Millgramm was appointed full professor at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. He lives with his family in Berlin.
