Wolfgang Schmidt (graphic designer)

Wolfgang Schmidt (born July 24, 1929 in Fulda ; † March 8, 1995 in Witzenhausen ) was a German painter and graphic artist . Wolfgang Schmidt is considered to be an important representative of commercial graphics and artistic graphics in Germany after the Second World War. He belonged to the Kassel school of poster art, book and magazine graphics .

life and work

Wolfgang Schmidt studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy and graduated as an art teacher. From 1952 to 1954 he studied at the Werkakademie in Kassel with Hans Leistikow . He attracted national and international attention, especially with his graphic work. One of his most important works is the graphic conception for the subway in Frankfurt am Main .

In 1964 Schmidt was appointed to participate in documenta III in Kassel in the graphics department with some work .

He worked for many years as a graphic designer in the Amerikahaus in Marburg an der Lahn .
