Wolfgang Schmitz (artist)

Wolfgang Schmitz (born September 26, 1934 in Marl ; † November 10, 2017 in Wuppertal ) was a German artist . The main focus of his artistic work were drawings on paper and cardboard, as well as prints .

Life

Schmitz studied from 1955 to 1960 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Otto Coester and Robert Pudlich and between 1960 and 1962 English studies at the University of Cologne . From 1981 to 1999 he was professor for draft / manual printing at the University of the Arts in Bremen . According to the HfK, his credo was "to draw on the spot". He lived in Wuppertal and was married to the painter Graziella Drößler .

Schmitz was a member of the German Association of Artists , in whose annual exhibitions he took part in 1980 (in Hanover), 1981 (in Nuremberg) and 1982 (in Düsseldorf). He had numerous solo exhibitions and took part in documenta 6 in Kassel. Schmitz received several art prizes and scholarships abroad .
