Wolfgang Zessin

Wolfgang Zessin (born March 14, 1948 in Klinken ) is a German physicist, zoologist and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending the Polytechnic High School , Zessin completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer at the Extended High School in Parchim , where he graduated from high school. He then took up a degree in physics at the University of Rostock , which graduated in 1971 with a diploma. From 1973 to 1976 he worked as a research assistant in the VEB water supply and wastewater treatment Karl-Marx-Stadt (since 1990 Chemnitz again ), from 1976 to 1983 as a rationalization engineer and from 1983 to 1988 as head of an enamelling laboratory in Schwerin . In 1986, he was with a thesis on fossil grasshoppers at the Humboldt University for Dr. rer. nat. PhD and worked from 1988 to 1990 as a research assistant and from 1994 to 2011 as deputy director at Schwerin Zoo .

Since 1978, Zessin has headed the geology specialist group at the Schwerin Cultural Association, since 1980 the Geosciences District Committee at the GDR Kulturbund (since 1990 Kulturbund eV), and from 1990 to 2011 the West Mecklenburg section of the Gesellschaft für Geschiebekunde . In 1991 Zessin was elected deputy state chairman of the Paneuropean Union Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Since 2014 he has been chairman of the VDA regional association Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Association for German Cultural Relations Abroad, formerly Association for Germanness Abroad), since 2000 he has been deputy chairman of the Mecklenburg Natural Research Society and since 2001 deputy chairman of the Mecklenburg Entomological Association. In more than 850 scientific and popular scientific publications he described a. a. numerous new species v. a. fossil insects.

Political party

Zessin was a member of the CDU until 2010.

MP

Zessin was from 1990 to 1994 a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , where he was the university policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and a member of the constitutional commission.
