Wolfgang von Gemmingen

Wolfgang von Gemmingen (born January 2, 1610 in Oppenheim ; † December 24, 1658 ) was the landlord in Oppenheim. As a representative of the imperial knighthood he co-signed the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 , later he was assessor of the Franconian knight circle at the imperial court in Speyer.

Life

He was one of the sons of Reinhard the Scholar (1576-1635) from his first marriage to Anastasia von Helmstatt (1579-1614). He received his upbringing after his mother's death from Pastor Weinmann in Brackenheim , whom he and his brothers followed to the Paedagogium illustrious in Stuttgart . Together with his brother Weiprecht, he studied law, Latin and Greek in Tübingen and Leyden . After graduation, he devoted himself to traveling to England and France. At the age of 21 he became procurator nationis at the Orleans Academy. The Thirty Years' War and his sick father moved him in 1632 to go home instead of traveling to Italy. He received Oppenheim from the inheritance of his father, who died in 1635 . In 1648 he was the emissary of the Imperial Knighthood at the Westphalian Peace Congress, where he won the respect of other emissaries. Count Trautmannsdorf offered him a position as Reichshofrat, which he turned down like a similar offer from the emperor at the Reichstag in Regensburg. From 1651 until his death he was assessor of the Franconian knight circle at the Imperial Court of Justice in Speyer .

Wolfgang von Gemmingen married Anna Margaretha von Wallbrunn († 1682) in the Oberntrauter Hof in Oppenheim on April 29, 1644 . Since the marriage came from only three daughters who came to years, Wolfgang's widow concluded in 1661 a settlement with her brother-in-law Weiprecht von Gemmingen (1608–1680) and her nephew Johann Reinhard von Gemmingen (1632–1678), who had the relapse of the property to the male descendants of the Hornberg line, with the daughters having a farm in Saulheim, a farm in Dalheim and various rights in Undenheim, Bensheim, Ritterheim and Rüdelsheim.
